Amazon Voice
Admin Tool
Although experiencing voice user interfaces is wonderful, modifying existing their flows was not. At Amazon Music we wanted to create an internal tool that allowed non-technical users to modify existing voice flows. Example: On Valentine’s Day we want the request “Alexa, play romantic music” to start playing a new Amazon Music original playlist.
TLDR;
2018 • User interviews • Task flows • Bootstrap • Bug bashes
USER INTERVIEWS
The first few weeks of this project included user interviews with everyone who would be using this tool. This included various developers, voice user interface designers, and project managers. I gathered a comprehensive list of all necessary tasks the tool would need to facilitate.
01
TASK FLOWS
After interviewing users to understand the various needs of this tool, I created task flows for the two different types of rules the tool would allow for in its’ first release. Once the flows were at a good place, they were reviewed with stakeholders a couple times to ensure all features were included.
02
BOOTSTRAP
When I began working on this project, I came to learn that Amazon Music did not have a design style guide for any of their internal tools. I worked with another UX designer to create such a style guide using bootstrap as our baseline for components. We provided the developers a CSS stylesheet and since then, three other internal tools have used the styles.

USER TESTING
At Amazon every product undergoes a lot of testing., Once we had a prototype version of the tool, we had different users test it. I added a few more features (created date, last user to edit, override length) into the tool after the first round of testing. We continued iterating on the design
